Prescription and medicine delivery is a service many chemists and pharmacies now offer, to help elderly people who are housebound or who have mobility problems. The chemist arranges for the prescription to be collected from the doctor’s surgery, then the medicine is dispensed and delivered to the home of the elderly person. It is for repeat prescriptions, and removes the difficulty older people may have in travelling to their doctors surgery and then to the chemist. Other agencies can also provide this service if necessary, and they include commercial organisations and home carers. Whilst the service is for repeat prescriptions, it doesn’t remove the need for the older person to see their GP when required to do so.
