Care > Hearing
Elderly people usually have some degree of hearing loss, and this can make it difficult to communicate and result in isolation. Hearing impairment is one of the most common problems affecting older people, and it can cause embarrassment and frustration. If you have cause to believe you have a hearing problem then you should see your GP. Treatment will depend on the cause of the hearing loss, but the most common are hearing aids which are worn in or behind the ear and require batteries. Hearing aids require checks and occasional repair as well as battery replacement. There also are other devices which can help, such as amplified telephones or flashing door bells. Some people who are deaf can learn to lip read.
