Day care for older people
What does it do?
In Sunderland there are a range of facilities offering day opportunities and day care for people over the age of 65. Some of these facilities are provided by local organisations, charitable and voluntary agencies or community groups. Some are provided in partnership with Sunderland City Council.
People have different levels of need and similarly these services cater for differing levels of need. Some day opportunities can be accessed directly within the community or by contacting agencies such as Age Concern. We can help people to locate day opportunities which may be suitable; this is often referred to as 'signposting'.
For others an assessment of need under Health, Housing and Adult Services 'Fair Access To Care Criteria' is required before a service could be considered or provided. In some situations, the outcome of the assessment may recommend that a direct payment is the most appropriate way to meet a person's assessed need for day care or day opportunities.
