Community alarm, security, telecare

What does it do?

Telford & Wrekin Council is using the term 'care and support technology' to refer to services that use technology to deliver care and
support to vulnerable people.
These services include:

  • assistive technology
  • telecare
  • telehealth

Care and support technology may help older or disabled people to carry on living at home and keep their independence. It could also mean
that people can return home from hospital more quickly.
Care and support technology provides a number of benefits. It:

  • enables people to remain independent in their own home with increased safety and confidence
  • reduces risks to vulnerable individuals
  • ensures a timely response in the event of an accident or emergency
  • provides support for carers and families
  • gives people greater control of their own lives
  • helps to reduce admissions to hospital
  • helps to support discharge from hospital
  • supports the rehabilitation or re-ablement of an individual after an accident
  • supports people with long-term health conditions

Who it is for?

Care and support technology can benefit anyone who needs a little extra help to continue living independently in their own home, including:

  • older people
  • people with physical, sensory, cognitive or learning disabilities
  • people with long-term health needs
  • people requiring short-term support. For example on being discharged from hospital or recovering from an accident
  • carers - by providing additional support and peace of mind
