Care and Repair is an independent service which can offer advice and support to older and disabled homeowners who wish to improve, repair or adapt their properties.
Residents aged over 60 or with a disability, and who own their own home, can contact the Care & Repair team for free advice and support.
As well as advice on repairs to your home such as your roof, windows, brickwork, electrics or plumbing, Care and Repair also have experience of adapting homes – such as installing stair lifts and specially designed showers.
Care and Repair will visit you in your home to discuss and assess the extent of the work required. They can then prepare a schedule of works and apply for any building regulation consent from the council’s planning department if necessary. Care and Repair will help you to choose a suitable builder ensuring good standards of work and liaise with the contractors and assist with any form filling and direct payments.
They can also look into funding for you, to see if the works can be covered by a grant, such as the Disabled Facilities Grant, or if you can claim on your home insurance, for example. |
