What does it do?It does this by providing practical advice and assistance with regard to home repairs, improvements, security measures and adaptations. The Staying Put Scheme is committed to providing a service which is accessible to customers and which promotes their independence.
The services we offer include:

Essential Repairs for homeowners aged 60 years or over.
Adaptations for disabled people of any age whether they own or rent their home.
Emergency Repairs for certain types of repair that could be considered a risk to the health or safety of the homeowner if left untreated.
Home Security Package is a package of security measures for people who qualify for the council's Home Security Grant.

Who it is for:

The purpose of the Staying Put Scheme is to help older homeowners and people with disabilities to continue living independently, comfortably and safely in their own home for as long as possible.

What it costs:

Whilst the initial stages of the service are free, a small agency fee is charged should we be asked to arrange any work. All costs and charges will be discussed with you fully before you are asked to commit yourself.
Grants may be available from the Council in limited circumstances and the Scheme’s officer can offer advice on this.

What to expect then:

Officers will visit you at home by prior arrangement to discuss your concerns. If we cannot help we will try to give you the name of an organisation or agency that can.

Advice from a building surveyor about essential repairs / improvements / adaptations that are of concern to you.
Obtaining quotes for work from builders or specialist contractors that have been through a vetting process.
Helping you to find the money to pay for the work if you don’t have sufficient finds yourself.
Supervision of any work that you ask us to arrange – and for which we remain responsible for 6 months once finished so that any faults can be put right.
Checks to ensure that you are receiving all the welfare benefits that you are entitled to and helping you to apply for benefits if you are not.
Advising you about other Council services that may be of benefit to you.
