What does it do?The Home Improvement Agency was set up in 1986 to help older and disabled homeowners and tenants of private landlords. We have considerable experience from helping more than 4,000 vulnerable homeowners and private tenants to arrange home repairs, adaptations or improvements that have enabled them to remain warm, safe and secure in their own homes.
In 2004 we combined with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames to provide wider services to vulnerable households living in poor or unsuitable housing conditions and in 2006 we extended our adaptations service to Wandsworth Council tenants.
Our main purpose is to advise and help:
- Older homeowners who need to repair, maintain, improve or adapt their home and
- Any household with a disabled person who wants to remain living independently at home, whether you own or rent your home from the council, a private landlord or a housing association.
We can offer financial advice, surveying experience and supervision of approved contractors, and you do not have to qualify for a grant to use our services.
