 | What does it do?Age Concern Somerset can offer clients simple toenail cutting, provided by trained volunteers, covering most areas of the county.
The service aims to keep those vulnerable members of society in their own homes, comfortable, mobile and independent; in some instances long toenails have contributed to falls and then hospitalisation. |
Who it is for: For older people in Somerset who unable to hold clippers, unable to bend down, or unable to reach their feet | Where it is available: Local service covering: Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, Mendip, North Somerset, Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Taunton Deane, West Somerset (Somerset). | What it costs: Funding is provided by the Primary Care Trusts in Somerset. | How to access or apply for it: Anyone who is interested in our Toenail Cutting service should ring the Falls Prevention Service on 0845 643 4705 to receive an application form and details of the application process. | What to expect then: The large team of fully trained toenail cutting volunteers visit several hundred clients at roughly eight week intervals, in specialised clinics or in their own home. It only takes between fifteen and thirty minutes per session. | Additional information: We are always happy to talk to anyone who would like to be a volunteer or a client. The volunteers on this service tend to be busy people, who enjoy the work because it is practical and worthwhile, definitely makes a difference, and can be fitted around their normal activities.
