Show more "The building that started it all back in 1695, The ‘Quad’ offers 34 ‘cloistered’ flats for independent living for single people. For beneficiaries offered one of these flats, independent life almost takes on that of a hotel resident; cleaning, laundry and food are provided by the Charity, as is free wifi. These flats have no cooking facilities so Quad beneficiaries (all with fascinating stories to tell of a life well lived) eat in the airy breakfast room or the magnificent dining room, hung with tapestries and ornate drapes. Diners are well fed here (guests or family can of course join them), the room watched over by the Charity’s founding benefactor, Sir John Morden, along with his wife, Dame Susan, both richly portrayed in oil.

Morden College believes in equal opportunities throughout its operations. As a provider of accommodation the charity will limit selection of residents solely in accordance with the criteria laid out in the Trust’s scheme The Charity will not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, gender, creed or sexual orientation; we welcome applications from single people, married couples or those in partnerships.

Applicants to the Charity either for accommodation or financial support must fulfil the following criteria:

They must have in their working lives held a position of responsibility in a profession, commerce, trade or vocation or have been the partner of someone who has held a position of responsibility in a profession, commerce, trade or vocation.

They will not be in paid employment and must be at or over the UK state pension age.

They will be in need by reason of financial hardship (Morden College welcomes applications from the poorest in our society), disability, infirmity or other disadvantage; which we shall judge on a case by case basis.

We carefully screen all applicants to the Charity." Show less
