Show more "The Almshouse complex consists of the two linked buildings – Stoop Court and Lindley House – that are encompassed by shrub gardens and patio areas. Ground floor flats have their own patio with a small garden.

Stoop Court is a two-storey building of 18 double-bedroomed flats built in 1986. Within Stoop Court is a large lounge where residents can join together for social activities that include a weekly coffee morning and weekly extend-chair exercises. Additionally there is a monthly fish-and-chip lunch. Outings are organised several times per year as well as other social functions. Residents also arrange evening social events from time to time. The communal laundry room and a guest room are also located in Stoop Court.

Lindley House was built in 1994 and it is also a two-storey building of 6 double-bedroomed flats with a small communal lounge and a guest room. Residents of Lindley House join in the full range of activities that those in Stoop Court have and can use the same facilities.

Both buildings have a lift and the same staff deal with the welfare of the residents in both buildings.

The residents pay a weekly maintenance charge. The Almshouse Manager is available part of each day between Monday and Friday and checks on the welfare of residents as well. When staff are off-duty, there is cover for emergencies via a pull-cord alarm system. Out of hours next-of-kin and friends may be called upon to provide assistance. Periodically social events are organised for and by residents.

Applications to live in these flats are considered by the Trustees, who take “need” as the main criterion, but must also be satisfied that residents are able to live independent lives and look after themselves." Show less
