Show more "Redworth House is located on the outskirts of Shildon, it was built in 2004 and is a modern spacious purpose built building set in its own grounds with 57 en-suite bedrooms, four of which are adjoining which is ideal for couples. All rooms have TV points, nurse call point and electrical sockets. A lift is provided for our wheelchair users.

Within the building there are three units, one unit accommodates up to 25 residential clients and the other unit accommodates up to 26 nursing clients; all experiencing dementia type illnesses. The third unit accommodates 6 clients experiencing learning disabilities. We can cater for long or short stay placements, and can provide specialised diets and we actively encourage residents to personalise their rooms.

As Redworth House is a Dementia Home we have tried to assist with orientation and stimulation by having clear signage and memory boxes by bedroom doors, internal decoration which is colourful stimulating and interactive. Life History work is paramount to understanding an individual’s perspective and staff will work with residents and their family to explore this.

The residential dementia unit has a large T.V lounge where residents can enjoy watching T.V or videos etc, alternatively there is a quiet lounge or the conservatory both of which have direct access into the garden which residents can enjoy some quieter moments. Most of the residents enjoy our nutritious home-cooked food in our spacious and welcoming dining room which has direct access to the courtyard garden.

The nursing dementia unit has two T.V lounges where residents can enjoy watching T.V or videos etc, alternatively there is a quiet lounge or a café area which has direct access to the outside balcony for residents to use if they prefer a quiet environment. Residents can enjoy having meals in the dining room, café area or their bedroom.

The learning disability unit has a large comfortable lounge, kitchen with combined dining room and a quiet room with sensory equipment. Residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible and assist with food preparation, general cleaning of their own rooms and have access to the shared garden.

The Home is close to all major routes with a bus stop directly outside of the Home. The centre of Shildon and the train station are approximately ½ mile away. Situated in a quiet area, it has a pleasant conservatory overlooking a well-maintained enclosed themed and interactive garden to the rear and a formal courtyard garden to the front. Both attract a variety of wildlife, such as birds, rabbits and squirrels and offer a safe and secure haven for the Service Users to enjoy. Ample parking is situated at the front of the building."
