“Donkeys are not usually among a care home’s frequent visitors, but Gledhow is always looking for imaginative ways to delight its residents. The home has regular visits from four-footed friends who can even make personal appearances in residents’ rooms if required – just one of the ways in which residents enjoy richness and fulfilment in their lives.
Purpose-built in 2000, Gledhow provides nursing care for up to 50 people and goes to great lengths to fulfil all residents’ needs, both physical and spiritual. Set in a quiet suburb of Leeds, the home remains well connected to the wider community. It even has its own minibus for residents to get out and about – they have been known to use it to attend weddings or other functions.
All the private bedrooms are single and en suite, with several communal lounges and dining rooms for company and socialising, and the surrounding gardens are graced by a water feature. A full activity programme is led by residents’ suggestions and wishes, while MHA’s highly trained and caring staff members work hard to ensure the right balance of privacy and company for each individual.
Each resident can be assured of the person-centred care that lies at the heart of MHA’s values. We are committed to providing alternative therapies such as reflexology and music therapy to residents, which do much to promote personal well-being, while the Chaplain provides one-to-one support to meet individual spiritual needs.
