Show more "With the original part of the house being built in 1877 as a doctors surgery, it later opened as an Abbeyfield Sheltered House in 1975 with a new extension built on that was unveiled in 1986, by Princess Diana.

Renovated both inside and out over the last 5 years, Abbeyfield House in Ulverston has new windows, decorations and furniture as well as a new outdoor patio area that gets plenty of use in the sunshine.

With 16 en-suite rooms, we have a lovely well-maintained garden to the front and a newly landscaped patio seated area to the back, with raised garden beds for anyone who may be keen on taking up or continuing their hobby of gardening. Completing our home are a communal living room and dining room, that residents are encouraged to make use of at their leisure - after all it's their home. Friends and family are welcome to visit and use these facilities, as well as join us for lunch or dinner.

Life at Abbeyfield House in Ulverston is never dull. Whether it's pursuing your existing hobbies or taking up new ones, we ensure there's always something to do. We have a great team of volunteers who join us every Friday for activities such as arts and crafts, coffee mornings, armchair exercises or themed quizzes. Once a month we have a big family trip out followed by tea and cake at a cafe along the way. We invite local entertainers in such as choirs, country singers and guest speakers. December is always a busy time for us with plenty of festive fun on offer in the build up to Christmas. In between Christmas and New Year, we enjoy a small party for residents, family, staff and volunteers where everyone gets up for a sing and dance.

Located close to the centre of the historic market town of Ulverston, we have a number of amenities just a short walk away, such as the library, cafes, restaurants and shops. For the lovers of natural beauty, we are about 30 minutes from the stunning Lake Windermere and only a 5 minute drive to the beach. We’re lucky to have a bus stop right on the doorstep, with the closest train station not far away either.

Ulverston is a very sociable town, with lots of different community groups to get involved with if you wish. We get involved in a lot of community activities with the local groups, school children and church groups.

At Abbeyfield House, we have a lovely friendly atmosphere that everyone picks up on when they visit." Show less
