Show more "Situated just a short bus ride away from the town centre of Stockport, Abbeyfield House offers sheltered housing for older people wanting to retain their independence whilst being part of a social, active and friendly community.

Comprising of two two-bedroom flats, 19 bedsits and one studio flat, Abbeyfield House is well suited to living later life to the full. All of our rooms come unfurnished allowing you to bring your favourite pieces of furniture, ornaments and pictures, truly making Abbeyfield House your home.

We encourage residents to make their room as comfortable and welcoming as possible, so if you want to redecorate, that is absolutely fine by us.

Completing our home is a communal dining room, lounge and conservatory, newly built in 2017 with views and access to the stunning garden. Lunch and dinner is taken in the dining room whilst relaxation and activates take place in the lounge. Residents are welcome to use these rooms at their leisure, be it to read a book in peace and quiet or to catch up with visiting friends and family.

Our house is fortunate enough to have a large garden with a water feature and patio area; perfect for enjoying the sunshine and watching the wildlife.

As this is your home, friends and family are welcome whenever it suits you and are always invited for lunch and dinner so you don’t have to worry about catering or cutting your visit short.

Weekly activities take place at Abbeyfield House, from bingo to quizzes and armchair exercises to baking, there is always something to take part in. Each week a volunteer hosts a coffee morning with residents where there is plenty of cake and chatter. We welcome volunteers from the local community to get involved with Abbeyfield House so please get in touch if you have an activity you’d like to run with our residents.

Our local community is also very active and events are held across Stockport which residents are invited to.

Lyme Park is just a bus ride away as well as Marple Canal boat trips and Buxton Pavilion, which holds regular tea dances. Local shops, the GP, a pharmacy, post office and dentist are a short walk from the house and staff are always on hand to offer suggestions of things to do in the area.

We have a four week rolling menu which is changed seasonally in consultation with residents. All meals are home-cooked and take into account any dietary requirements or particular tastes. Home made pies, baked Alaska, soda bread, tea bread and soups are some of our residents’ favourite meals, but nothing tops fish and chips on a Friday.

We provide two tasty meals every day served in our communal dining room. Residents also have breakfast making facilities in their own rooms, so you can start your day whenever suits you." Show less
