Herondale

175 Yardley Green Road, Yardley, Birmingham B9 5PU. Care home with nursing

Owned by: Methodist Homes - a voluntary / non-profit organisation

Owner's description

“Originally purpose-built in 1993, Herondale provides 36 specialist dementia nursing places, in partnership with Birmingham East and North Primary Care Trust. This arrangement enables residents to be supported further with regular consultations and psychiatric input.
Designed with four units on two storeys, each area has living space for nine residents. Staff members are clear about their priorities:
“We respect our residents’ right to dignity and privacy. We encourage and enable our residents to make their own decisions. We provide support to enable residents to relearn lost skills and learn new skills. We provide high quality care and therapy tailored to the needs of each individual resident, with the aim of maximising residents’ independence.”
But while the care for residents is central to the work of Herondale, staff members are also aware of the positive impact that their work can have on relatives. “We feel privileged that she was accepted by you into such a caring, compassionate and loving community,” wrote one grateful relation. “The burden on us to find the ‘right’ Home was enormous. We found you. We could not have chosen better. We will always be grateful and think of you as part of our family. We could rest day and night knowing that she was in the very best of care 24 hours a day.”
