By then I'd already been a qualified nurse for ten years. I liked the feel of the place, so when I later discovered they had a part-time vacancy I came and worked here two evenings a week. That was over twenty years ago!Five years ago I was appointed manager (although if I'm honest I prefer the title 'matron'). I'm not unusual. Many of the staff have worked here for years. Quite a number have family members that work or live here too. We're so proud of Oaklands, and have pulled together as a team to raise standards to the point where nearly all new clients come to us as a result of word-of-mouth recommendation. In January 2012 we received the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) in Care Homes Quality Hallmark Award, placing us among fewer than one in ten care homes in England to have achieved the Gold Standard. We consistently exceed Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and are Investors in People (IIP) certified, because that's all about giving ownership of a job role to the right person. Above all, we recognise that delivering a high standard of care takes more than just dedication. It takes hard work and good planning. We'll never stop trying to improve."" Show less
