An appeal for £60,000 had been launched in support of MHA in the late spring of 1988. By November 1990, the appeal total stood at £61,415.
Epworth Grange was built to accommodate 32 older people men and women and was designed on the principle, developed in other MHA Homes, of blending independent living with integration into a community.
The Home is divided into five wings, each with a small dining room. Centrally prepared meals are served here, allowing residents to meet at meal times in “family groups”. Each group – with its own kitchen – is encouraged to be partly self-supporting by preparing light meals and carrying out small domestic tasks. Additionally, the Home’s Methodist roots also continue to be evident in the way that residents regularly take part in leading morning prayers.
At the same time, each individual resident has the privacy of his or her own bed-sitting room with private lavatory and wash-basin. “I moved in when the Home was first opened,” writes one resident, “and there’s no better place. The staff are very caring and nothing is too much trouble for them.”" Show less
