Occasional or regular outings or trips can be particularly enjoyable for elderly people who may otherwise be isolated, and they offer the chance to travel combined with the companionship of others. Outings for older people can be arranged through a volunteer service or through a group or club, and the range is extensive. It includes theatre trips, outings to places of interest, including the seaside, museums or pub visits. Day trips by coach may be available, as well as weekend excursions and holidays. The cost will depend on the nature and length of the outing, although most outings for an older person provided by a volunteer will cost little or nothing. In isolated country areas local community transport services can offer regular shopping trips to a local supermarket by minibus at low cost together with the opportunity to socialise with others.
