Care > Support for carers
Unpaid carers of elderly people, usually family members or neighbours, often need help and support to enable them to carry on their caring role. Informal carers are entitled to a carers needs assessment by Social Services to ensure that their needs are identified so that the appropriate support can be offered to them. There is specific assistance and services for unpaid carers, and these include respite care and day care so the carer can have a break from their caring role. There also are carers support groups, and information and advice services. They focus on the financial, emotional and other needs of these carers of older people.
