Housing with help nearby (extra care)

What does it do?

Extra care helps you maintain your independence in the community and provides flexible, high quality support to meet your individual needs. Life changes, health problems or feeling unsafe or isolated are reasons why you might consider extra care. Extra care residents have the security and privacy of their own home often with extra facilities on the premises and support staff based on site. There are currently three schemes in South Tyneside; one in South Shields, one in Jarrow and
one in Hebburn. A fourth one is planned for South Shields. What is different about extra care? You live at home - not in a home You have your own front door and decide who comes in Support staff are on duty 24 hours a day You get support to keep your independence You can join in social activities if you choose to do so You retain control over your own affairs
