 | What does it do?Frozen or hot meals are provided in most areas of
North Yorkshire. The majority are delivered by our own personal care at
home resource workers or the WRVS (formally the Women's Royal Voluntary
Service). This service is known as "meals on wheels" or "delivered
meals".
We can arrange for you to receive delivered meals, either hot or
frozen, if it is decided that this is the best way of meeting your
needs, following an assessment under the NHS & Community Care Act
1990. We can also provide information about delivered meals providers in
your area.If they are arranged by us, delivered meals will only
be for people who without them, could not manage to buy in or prepare
food. They are usually part of a larger package of care. In addition,
tea or breakfast services would only be arranged by social care services
if you were assessed as needing them. |
Who it is for: To apply for a meals on wheels service from social care services, you need to have an assessment of your needs. You can apply for a needs assessment by contacting the customer services centre. | Where it is available: Local service covering: Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough, Selby (North Yorkshire). | What it costs: If we supply the meals directly to you, we will let you know the
costs and how you can pay for them. Your social care worker will be able
to answer any questions about paying for the meals. If you have a larger package of care then the costs of meals will be taken into account when you receive a financial assessment for the other services. This also applies if you receive extra tea or breakfast services. | How to access or apply for it: Customer services centre (social care enquiries)
