Day centres are available across the borough to offer support to older people who feel socially isolated or have difficulty in managing alone. They can also provide a break for carers and places are on offer during the week and at weekends.
Transport to day centres is provided where necessary and people’s cultural/religious needs can often be met, with specialist day care for Jewish and Asian elders in particular. There are also some specialist centres for older people with dementia or functional mental illness.
Most day centres can be contacted directly by older people or their carers, and offer a wide range of activities.
