What does it do?The Visiting Scheme is a free service which provides friendship and support to older people who feel lonely or isolated.
Our Visiting Scheme volunteers visit older people in their home once a week, usually for an hour or so. They provide much needed companionship and support. When matching a volunteer with an older person, we take care that they have similar interests and are compatible. As with all our schemes, volunteers are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and reference checked.
How does it work?
Once a suitable volunteer has been found he or she will be introduced by the scheme coordinator. The same volunteer will visit each week so that, in time, a friendship may develop.
How can I be referred to these schemes?
- you can call and refer yourself
- a relative or friend can call on your behalf
- a health or social work professional can call for you
