Sandwell Telecare Assisting You (STAY)

What does it do?

STAY can provide you with a range of electronic devices that will help you to remain independent and safe in your own home.
Electronic assistive technology means a range of electronic devices that have been developed to assist people with
physical, sensory or mental health difficulties to continue to live at home as safely and independently as possible.
In Sandwell, STAY (Sandwell Telecare Assisting You) is responsible for providing and installing these devices.
We aim to provide equipment that will:

  • assist people to monitor and maintain a safe home environment
  • assist carers to care for someone at home
  • reduce the risk of falls and accidents within the home
  • prevent avoidable admissions to hospital.

Who it is for?

Who could benefit from our equipment?
Anyone who:

  • is forgetting to take medication on time
  • is at risk of wandering out of the house alone
  • is vulnerable to temperature extremes
  • is unable to react to emergencies within the home
  • is unable to get out of the property quickly in an emergency 
  • needs a light to be automatically switched on when getting up at night
  • is caring for someone but cannot be with them 24-hours a day
  • is at risk of falling has carers that need to be alerted when help is required.

Local service (Sandwell).

What it costs:

There is no charge for the equipment and services of STAY.
There may be a charge if STAY equipment is monitored by an alarm response centre. The amount that the alarm centre charges will depend on your financial situation.

  • your doctor
  • district nurse
  • occupational therapist
  • physiotherapist
  • other health or social care worker.
They will make a referral to us if they feel that you will benefit from the services we provide.

What to expect then:

We will contact you and arrange a convenient time to visit you.
Depending on your individual circumstances we may ask a STAY assessor to visit you in your home to carry out an assessment of your needs, or instruct a technician to install equipment.
