Age Concern - Cornwall and the Isles of ScillyBefriending

What does it do?Feeling alone and need someone to listen?

The befriending arm of Age Concern Cornwall is a vital service for older people in the county, especially those in rural and isolated areas. For those who need support on a one-to-one basis, this service is invaluable. If you are housebound, if your circumstances have recently changed through bereavement, or if you feel lonely or isolated, then one call to us may help.

Our coordinator will visit you with the aim of resolving your concerns. If you wish to be introduced to a befriender then this will be done as soon as we are able. All our volunteer befrienders are interviewed and security checked and we also take up references. Your volunteer will visit or telephone you on a regular basis to suit your needs. You have our assurance that each volunteer is personally matched to meet your needs.

We realise everyone has different requirements. One kind of support is given through our befriending events. These social occasions are for people who wish to meet others in an informal setting. We can provide transport to these events if you need it.
