- We give free advice to homeowners about repairs and adaptations to their home.
- We can help make your home safe, secure and more suitable for your needs. This could mean you staying in your home and continuing to live independently in your community.
We can help with all kinds of improvements from installing grab rails, building specially designed bathrooms to getting your roof
fixed. |
Who it is for: Who is it for?
- Are you a homeowner and over 60?
Do you have:
- a disability or impairment or
- live on a low income?
Our service is aimed primarily at those who meet the above criteria but we may be able to help you depending on your
circumstances. | Where it is available: Local service covering: South Ribble, West Lancashire (Lancashire). Liverpool (Merseyside). | What it costs: We’ll visit you in your home to find out what your needs are and provide free impartial advice on the adaptations, improvements and the energy efficiency of your home. If you decide you’d like to use our services further, which can include obtaining quotes from reputable contractors and supervising the project, there will be a 10% fee on the cost of all works taken. (Please note. If you decide to not use our services once we’ve started any work, there will be a cancellation fee payable.)
Our advice is free but we do charge for the extra services we can provide. This fee is used to support our services and allow us to keep providing free advice to those who need it.
Don’t worry we’ll talk everything through with you, including how it all works, timescales and the costs involved before you
commit yourself to any work. | How to access or apply for it: Referrals can be made either direct to the service, or via voluntary or statutory workers in the community (e.g. Citizens Advice Bureaux, Occupational Therapists, etc).
Telephone advice Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, but clients are visited in their own homes to assess work required. | What to expect then: What happens when you get in touch with us?
When you get in touch with us we’ll arrange to come and visit you in your home, we aim to come and see you within three weeks from your initial enquiry. We’ll talk to you about what you’d like to improve, see what other work we could do and explain the options available and what funding might be available to help. Once you’ve met with us and you’ve decided you’d like to go ahead with any work to your home, we’ll come and see you again.
This time the visit will be a technical visit and depending on the services you’d like to receive, this could include:
- measuring up and taking more detailed information for the work
- required
- producing a work schedule
- producing the designs for the work to meet your needs
- help applying for any funding that might be available.
Once we’ve planned everything, if you’d like us to, we can recommend or arrange for reliable and approved contractors to
provide estimated costs for the works.
