What does it do?
Our aim is to help people do small DIY jobs around their homes, stay warm and save money on fuel bills helping people to live safely and independently in their own homes home.
We offer :
A Handyperson Service
Available to all residents of the Borough who are aged over 60 or adults of any age if in receipt of DLA. Small DIY type repairs are carried out by our team of experienced and reliable handymen including easing doors, fitting door chains and spy holes, changing light bulbs, hanging curtains, moving furniture, putting up shelves, cupboards etc.
A Home Safety Service
FREE service available to all residents of the Borough who are over 60. The service incorporates a home safety assessment looking at environmental risks within your home such as loose carpets, loose handrails and other trip/fall hazards.Following an assessment, small items of home safety equipment may be issued where appropriate. Any DIY type repairs identified by the assessment will be carried out by our Handyperson.
An Energy Efficiency Service
FREE advice service available to all residents of the Borough to help you to keep your homes warm whilst keeping your energy bills down. Gives advice on simple ways to save energy, the various measures that can be installed to help keep your home warm ie loft and cavity wall insulation and how to improve heating and hot water systems. We also give advice on how to access the Government’s Green Deal and ECO schemes to install energy efficiency measures in your home.
An Enhanced Housing Options Service
FREE service is available to all vulnerable residents of the Borough especially the elderly and disabled. We provide a home visit by one of our Liaison Officers to help you explore your housing options if or when you feel your current home no longer meets your needs.
A Home Maintenance Service
Free advice and support to homeowners who are wanting to carry out repairs or improvements to their home but are unsure where to start, ranging from painting a window frame to building an extension.
Who it is for?
Handyperson - Over 60's or adults of any age who receive DLA/PIP
Home Safety - Over 60's or any adult who reeived DLA/PIP
Energy Efficiency - Anyone who is a resident of the Borough
Enhanced Housing Options - vulnerable residents especiallyelderly or disabled
Home Maintenance - Any resident of the borough who is an owner/occupier
Where it is available?Local service covering: Blackburn with Darwen (Lancashire).
What it costs:
For customers in receipt of a means tested benefit we offer 2 hours free labour followed by a further two hours at £15 per man/per hour (up to a max total of 4 hours).
For customers not in receipt of a means tested benefit there is a charge of £10 per man/per hour for the first 2 hours followed by a further two hours at £15 per man/ per hour.
For all customers there is a small charge of £5 for collecting materials and £10 per elevation for gutter cleaning.
Residents must provide or pay for the materails used.
All other DASH advice services are free of charge.
