Support at Home

What does it do?

It provides regular visits at home, or accompanies people to visit local events/appointments. It aims to assist people to overcome or manage crisis events, such as moving house, threatened eviction, bereavement or episodes of illness.

Who it is for?

Older people aged 55 and over, in any housing type, Housing Association landlord/private landlord/owner occupier.

Where it is available?

Regional service (Herefordshire, Worcestershire).

What it costs:

The service is free for people on any of the 3 qualifying benefits; Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Rebate (not just single person allowance). For others there is an hourly charge of £18, however the initial visit is free for everyone.

What to expect then:

A support worker will contact them or, where requested  their family contact, to arrange a home visit to explore how the service may help. A visiting pattern is offered, usually weekly, this can start as soon as the customer agrees.

A Forum of Customers assist the service to continually improve and this is demonstrated by accreditation with CHS and achieving  their Code of Practice award. Visit their website http://www.chs.ac.uk
