Dorset Community Transport

Dorset Community Transport

What does it do?

Dorset Community Transport is part of ECT Charity, and combines the benefit of local management with the support of a national organisation. Our operations began in September 2011, with the award of around thirty home-to-school routes, which we operate on behalf of Dorset County Council.

We make use of the down-time around these services (primarily 9:30am to 2:30pm, evenings, weekends and school holidays) to make vehicles available for general community transport services in Dorset and nearby areas. Our main focus is "Group Transport", which offers affordable minibus hire (with driver) to voluntary, community and social groups. Our clients include Age Concern, Synergy Housing, and many residential homes.

We have also been delighted to support the unique Bus2Go project in Milbourne St Andrew, where a group of energetic residents have come together to develop a programme of outings that tackle the exclusion issues that can exist in rural areas. By using accessible minibuses and a flexible service, the service is genuinely inclusive and has proved to be a great contributor to the local community.

We are happy to discuss any specific transport needs with individuals or groups, where there seems to be no obvious public transport solution. Whilst we may not always be able to assist ourselves (funding is an issue for us, as for most charities), we can at least offer our professional advice.
