Transport for medical appointments service in Gatehead

What does it do?

Volunteer transport for medical appointments.

This project involves door to door transport by car, driven by an Age UK volunteer. Our volunteers will escort clients to their medical appointment whether it be hospital or clinic. If at all possible the volunteer will also remain with the client throughout their wait. Once the appointment is over the volunteer will drive the client home and will ensure that they are settled before leaving.

Who it is for?

Older people in Gateshead

Where it is available?

Local service (Gateshead).

What it costs:

There is a charge of 60p per mile for this service and that will go towards petrol costs for the volunteer’s car.

How to access or apply for it:

We would appreciate appointments to be made 5 days in advance as it is not always possible for a volunteer to be available. If you need to cancel lyour appointment please let us know 3 days prior.

Our volunteers are also available to take clients to and from hospice’s to make visits, again with notice.

Please contact Rhea Hopkinson-Ward to make an appointment.
