What does it do?Where the person does not feel able to speak for him/herself, an advocate can speak for them. An advocate can also inform a person about their rights, entitlements and options, so that their choices are based on accurate knowledge. We can help in a variety of ways including:
• Liaising with Social Services, NHS, solicitors etc. • Helping you to choose residential/nursing care • Listening to you • Addressing your complaints and suggestions. • Attending meetings with you or representing your views.
We also run weekly Advocacy Support Groups for people aged over 65 with mental health difficulties. We provide warm and comfortable surroundings and opportunities to make new friends and find mutual support. Group members plan a programme of activities including guest speakers, complimentary therapies, information sharing etc. |
