Home eye testing

Free NHS home eye test and glasses across Glasgow

What does it do?

McBay Mobile Opticians provides free NHS eye examinations and glasses in the comfort of your own home. My name is Ann McBay. If you are no longer able to leave your home for an eye test, then I can help.

Who it is for?

Anyone who is unable to leave their home unassisted

Where it is available?

Regional service (East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde, West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire).

What it costs:

Eye tests are free in Scotland and there is no charge for me to come to your house.

Glasses vary in price. If you receive certain benefits, such as Pension Credit guarantee, then I have a range of frames to choose from completely free.

If you don't get help with the cost of your glasses, then I will make the prices as clear as I can. You are under no obligation to buy your glasses from me and I am happy to come back at another time if you want to have a think about it first.

How to access or apply for it:

Give me a call, or email me. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

What to expect then:

Using the latest portable equipment, I can tailor your eye test to suit your needs in your own home.

An eye examination isn't just about getting glasses. An eye exam is also an opportunity to check for potential eye diseases. I recommend you have an eye examination every 1-2 years to help pick up common eye problems such as cataract, glaucoma and macular degeneration as soon as possible. The sooner problems like this are picked up, the easier it is to fix them. An eye exam can also pick up problems elsewhere in the body such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes.

If you need new glasses, I will return to fit your glasses correctly and I will return again if you need them adjusted or repaired for whatever reason.

Additional information:

I have over 20 years experience as an optometrist. I believe that every single person has a fundamental right to sight, and that right does not diminish when you are unable to leave your home.

As an independent optometrist I treat all my clients as I would like to be treated myself. There will be no rush and there will be no pressure to buy expensive glasses you might not need. What there will be is a high standard of clinical care delivered in a friendly, down to earth manner. Everything will be explained clearly to you.
