Advice on housing & care for older people. Sheltered housing, retirement housing, extra care housing for the elderly

EAC Advice Line

This site is run by Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC). We also provide a free, independent, telephone advice service to older people, their families and people who work with them.

Like this website, the service aims to help older people make decisions about their housing, care or support in the full knowledge of what options are open to them, what they cost and how to get access to them. Our Advice Line staff are here to offer guidance or information on a wide range of subjects, including:

  • care and support to help you live independently at home
  • emergency response services to provide reassurance that help is at hand if needed
  • improving, adapting or repairing your home to make more convenient, comfortable or safe
  • all forms of housing designed for older people - sheltered housing, retirement housing, extra care housing, assisted living, retirement villages, Abbeyfields & almshouses
  • moving to a care home to receive personal care or nursing care
  • respite care to give you or your carers a break
  • hospice care for people who are terminally ill
  • how to pay for any of the services above

Who we work with

We welcome referrals from other information and advice services, professionals who work with older people, Local Authorities and housing and care providers.  We are particularly keen to work in partnership with community groups and organisations to ensure that people from minority communities know about our service and are able to make use of it.  Our Caring Company Service provides a professional and personal service to staff and retired staff of some of the UK’s largest employers.

Help us to help more people

Like this website, EAC’s Advice Line (020 7820 1343) is provided free to all. We do however rely on donations to help meet the cost of running it. Your contribution, however modest, will help us to maintain, improve and expand our service. To donate, send a cheque, Postal Order or CAF voucher, payable to EAC, to EAC, 3rd floor, 89 Albert Embankment London SE1 7TP. If you pay income tax, we may be able to claim the tax you have already paid on your donation, making it worth almost one third more. This is through the Gift Aid scheme.
