All people aged 75 years and over are entitled to the free over 75 TV licence. A concessionary licence (currently £5 per household a year) is available for disabled people and those aged 60 years and over, who work no more than 15 hours a week and who live in a certain type of sheltered housing.
These concessionary licences are only granted if qualifying criteria are met and all the residents are eligible. Private housing schemes are eligible only if they are run or publicly provided or managed by a local authority or housing association. Application to the TV Licensing Authority has to be made by the organisation managing the scheme, and if granted is responsible for collection of the fee from individual residents.
