Advice on housing & care for older people. Sheltered housing, retirement housing, extra care housing for the elderly

Advice & info. services

Definition: Services that help older people deal with problems in their home, or find alternative housing, care or support.

Services that offer advice and/or information to older people to help them deal with problems in their home, or choose, find and afford whatever alternative housing, care or support they are looking for.

In the main services are free and independent; these may be run by central or local government, or by non-frofit organisations. Sometimes they will be provided free by commercial organisations, who may later earn income from any services you buy from them. A smaller number are services for which you pay; where this is the case, we make this clear on the site.

HousingCare.org's Advice Finder builds on work commissioned by Help the Aged to map advice information services whose remit includes housing advice to older people, supplemented by new research by EAC, some joint with Ethnic Focus. Our aim is to describe and code services in sufficient detail to enable potential service users to pinpoint the most appropriate one to meet their needs and preferences.
