Advice on housing & care for older people. Sheltered housing, retirement housing, extra care housing for the elderly

Abbeyfield Houses

Definition: Large houses in which 6 to 12 older people have the support of a house manager

Abbeyfield Houses are run by voluntary organisations and offer supported housing for between 6 and 12 older people. A majority are owned and managed by independent local Abbeyfield Societies, but a growing number have joined forces within Abbeyfield UK. Some newer Abbeyfield developments are larger and provide extra care sheltered accommodation.

Each house has a paid house manager and provides 2 cooked meals a day and support from local volunteers. Residents have their own rooms, often with en-suite facilities. Some Abbeyfield residents are tenants and some have licences (which means the tenure is less secure). If you are interested in Abbeyfield living, you might like to visit the Abbeyfield website or to call EAC's Advice Line (020 7820 1343) to find out more.
